Whole Lotta Energy — Album Artwork ( Savannah Oshun )

Harlem — Bronx artist Savannah Oshun comes correct on her debut 8-song Hip Hop album Whole Lotta Energy. Her name Oshun is inspired by the spirit and goddess Oshun who’s energy is known to heal and create life. Savannah for sure creates life on this album, the production on this project is grade A and it is complimented marvelously by the tracklist order. As a Hip Hop head, I was happy to hear Savannah using the traditional New York-style witty lyrical wordplay and in turn, playing with annunciations and flow switching.

The beat selection was the proper sound design mixture of head-bopping, turning up, and dancing that pays homage to the vintage and modern New York sound. Her versatility is what I feel allows her music to be spun in clubs/radio/ streaming playlists, played in barbershops, in cars, and at barbecues. Savannah most definitely stands strong in who she is and she says what she says. This album serves as a declarative statement communicating that she doesn’t feel the urge to fit in and conform to others’ standards.

You can easily recognize that she has supreme knowledge and understanding of self. So calling her confident is an understatement as she paints a vivid picture of turning her trials into triumphs. This is most highlighted on the opening track Premature Billionaire where she raps in an unorthodox poetry format that still fits inside the pocket of the beat. Savannah raps.

Premature Billionaire status I spoke my life to be / Saw the cracks in the lines telling me that I can’t be free / Undid the dirty mentality telling me I can’t measure up / Whether it’s a dollar in my account or a hundred thousand trust still serving looks / Still got the sound that spreads across lands / No poverty lines could ever spoil my plans / I got a vendetta against anything getting in my way, fuck a party I’m watching play by play Warren Buffet business plans

My take on this complete body of work is that Savannah had a lot of fun and was fully invested in this album. Based on the supreme confidence she delivered in her tone and vocal affiliations within every song. I will rate this project a 20 out of 11 for the sound production, and lyricism. I mean every single song was chefs kiss good. This album certainly had a Whole Lotta Energy and it brought me back to how I felt when I heard Foxy Brown’s album Ill na na for the first time.

I listened to Whole Lotta Energy ten times in two days and it got better with each listen. Keeping the album concisely to 8 songs was a genius idea, it allowed me to be present and digest the music. It is what kept me engaged to keep listening. I honestly do not see any competition for Savannah and if she keeps up the consistency she will become a worldwide artist and public figure. She has the look, the flow, she can sing and really rap, I mean really freaking rap.

I confidently believe she could out rap a lot of rappers signed to major deals. I’m now a proud fan of Savannah Oshun. I also believe that she will be on Funkmaster Flex’s show on Hot 97 free-styling dropping bars on tops of bars representing her city very soon. If you like witty, lyrical, and feel-good party rap music I feel this project will resonate with you.
